Support Tutoring at Penasco Elementary

Velarde Elementary is experiencing severe need this fall/winter of the 24-25 school year. A certified classroom teacher has suffered a medical emergency early in the semester and the two grades of students have been without a qualified substitute or qualified intervention staff. In addition, special education staff is only able to be present on the campus one day per week.  Embudo Valley Tutoring has partnered with the Velarde principal to offer daily tutoring services to each of the children in the affected classroom and to a few more upper level elementary children as well. Two tutors are working up to 24 hours/week each to provide the necessary interventions to help the students continue to progress in reading and math. Once a certified teacher is employed for the classroom by the district, tutors will remain on hand to support students in resuming regular curricular studies.
