Promoting LA Gives
The success of Los Alamos Gives as a campaign is dependent on nonprofits collectively getting the word out to the whole community with creative and effective marketing. We hope that every participating nonprofit will contribute to the campaign by sharing campaign messaging with their supporters and networks.
Goals of the overall marketing campaign
- Create a call to action for Giving Tuesday and over the Thanksgiving Weekend. Direct community members to the Los Alamos Gives website by capitalizing on the pride of locals coming together collectively to support the place they love.
- Educate the public about how significantly local nonprofits support and enrich each of us in the community. Whether you live, work or play here, you benefit from our nonprofits.
Tone/Information
- Communications should have a fresh and conversational tone.
- Individual nonprofit pages on the site should be informative and compelling.
Promote to Your Community
The simplest promoting you can do is via email blasts to your own network and word-of-mouth through your staff, board, volunteers and supporters. A sample email is at the bottom of this page, but you should absolutely customize it to align with your organization's tone and messaging. You can direct supporters to the Los Alamos Gives main page or your individual site page.
- Make sure that on your site page and in any communications you are effectively telling your nonprofit's story and wow-ing potential donors with your organization's impact.
- Consider using a belief statement + you statement + opportunity statement to make an inspiring ask:
- Belief statement: We believe that no student should have to choose between food and learning.
- You statement: You can help us stock the pantry so that no student has to make the choice/goes hungry.
- Opportunity statement: Are you with us?
- Consider using a belief statement + you statement + opportunity statement to make an inspiring ask:
- Other ideas include: introducing staff, showing your work in action with a video (doesn't have to be fancy), posting photos of people in action and interacting with the community, telling a story - Why do you do what you do? Who is it impacting? Why does it matter to the community?
- Simple sample social media posts or email headlines:

Consider a Matching Grant Challenge from your Board, a Local Business or Supporter(s)
A matching grant challenge is a great way to encourage donations by letting supporters know they can double the amount of their gift. Often, an organization's Board of Directors will pool individual gifts and offer them as a matching grant opportunity for the organization. Discuss this possibility with your board, a local business or even a donor or group of donors. The support center has numerous articles regarding matching grants - please start here with the Matching Grants page and see related articles on the left side.
Host a Party
Consider inviting supporters and friends to join you on Giving Tuesday by offering treats, a site tour, and providing an opportunity to donate at your office.
