Bridge to Health NM

Bridge to Health NM, a nonprofit wellness center in Española, creates opportunities to engage the community in positive health behavior change. When you donate to Bridge to Health NM, you are supporting accessible and affordable wellness opportunities for everyone in Española, the Northern Pueblos, Rio Arriba County, and beyond! 

“We started Bridge to Health NM because we got tired of there being a lack of access to supportive, varied, integrated, and inclusive fitness and wellness opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, and income levels in Espanola. We decided to solve the problem ourselves.” -Tana Beverwyk-Abouda, director. 

Bridge to Health NM operates on a mission to empower everyone to move, learn, laugh, and grow in order to create a powerful culture of health by providing equitable access to wellness activities in a supportive community of diverse individuals. 

The wellness center offers services and programs for people of all ages and abilities to practice healthy lifestyles in a safe, inclusive, and affordable environment. In addition to the group fitness classes, personal coaching as an Exercise is Medicine® certified site, Bridge to Health NM hosts workshops and courses focused on health and other topics relevant to the community such as Healthy Eating & Weight Management, Yoga for Back Pain, Latin Dance, Theories of Motivation, Improving Vision Naturally, Vape 101, and Will Planning. Financial aid is always available and child care is offered at select activities to further increase community access.

Bridge to Health NM’s presence extends past the physical location of the wellness center to address social determinants of health in the community through the coordination of the Rio Arriba Community Health Council and its partnerships with organizations such as the University of New Mexico (UNM), Presbyterian Española Hospital, El Centro Family Health, Tewa Women United, Northern New Mexico United Way, 100% Rio Arriba, and more! As the Partner HERO for the UNM Sciences Center, Bridge to Health NM works collaboratively to reduce rates of heart disease in Rio Arriba County.
